The MARK HEARD Songwriting Contest

Silent Planet logo

Presented annually on the Silent Planet Records Acoustic Stage at the Cornerstone Music Festival, the Mark Heard Songwriting Contest is an opportunity for amateur, independent artists to have their best original songs reviewed and judged by a panel of industry professionals. Five songwriter finalists are selected to perform in a special presentation on the Acoustic Stage, and among other prizes, the finalist is accorded an opportunity to have a song featured on the Silent Planet Records nationally distributed Acoustic Stage Live CD

This contest is open to those who consider themselves amateur, independent songwriters. For the purposes of this contest, an amateur songwriter is defined as a person whose primary source of income is not derived from songwriting and who does not have a publishing deal with a major publishing company.

Entries will be judged by a panel of professional songwriters, publishers, or other music industry professionals. Judges will include Dan Russell, Tom Willett and Terry Taylor. These judges may be substituted due to availability. All entries will be judged on originality, lyrical substance, melody and the song's overall artistic quality. Music production and performance quality are also important, but are considered secondary. All decisions by judges will be final. Finalists will be determined and notified no later than June 17, 2002.
